Introduction to Floral Arranging Seminar     $39.00

In this two hour, hands-on class you will put together a vase arrangement that you get to take home, learn about the care and handling of fresh flowers and find out more about our other class offerings! This is a great way to find out more about the school and our courses.

Certificate Courses   

Basic Floral Design at the Houston School of Floral Design was the beginning educational program for many of today’s top designers and floral shop owners.  Daily material is presented in a cycle consisting of Lecture, Demonstration, Practice and Critique.  A wide selection of fresh flowers and foliages are used throughout the program and each student works on their own projects with the guidance of an instructor.  Class size is limited to assure that each student receives the individual attention they need. Houston School of Floral Design graduates can be found in design, sales, management, executive and educational positions throughout Houston and across the country.

The Houston School of Floral Design is approved and regulated by the Texas Workforce Commission, Division of Career Schools and Colleges.  You will receive a certificate upon the completion of each of the courses in this section.  Each course meets 4 sessions for 2.5 hours each, for a total of 10 hours.

Flowers For Fun Courses   

So you love flowers.  So do we.  Each month we offer lots of opportunities for you to exhance your love of flowers by continuing to build your skills as a designer.  These courses are purely for recreational purposes and for fun!  In each class you will put together an arrangement that you get to take home, you will learn the techniques involved in creating that arrangement so that you can replicate it again and again, and you will continue to build on your knowledge of flowers and floral design to make your world more beautiful!

100 Introduction to Flower Arranging: In this two hour seminar you create a beautiful arrangement, learn care and handling techniques, the elements and principles of design and basic flower arranging. In addition, you will learn more about our other course offerings at the Houston School of Floral Design.

101 Arrangement Session: This course covers the basic principles of design for contemporary, classic and geometric floral arranging. We will be identifying and working with fresh cut flowers and foliage.

102 Wedding Arrangements: This course covers the complete construction of bridal and attendant wedding bouquets, corsages, boutonnières and hairpieces made of roses, daises, carnations, orchids, mixed spring and Holland flowers and silks.

103 Shop Management & Sympathy Session: Thinking of opening your own shop someday? Come and learn everything you need to know to get started. Of course, we always recommend you get some experience before starting your own business.  This would be true of anything you decide to do.  We will spend a lot of time on marketing ideas for your shop or for your event planning business. In addition, we will spend two class sessions designing sympathy pieces.

Advanced Arrangement Seminar

104 Advanced Arrangement Seminar Description: The Arrangements Plus! Seminar will include interpretative design styles influenced by garden trellises and arbors. Students will also learn to design European hand-tied bouquets, the most popular style of arranging flowers in Europe. Romantic tablescapes for entertaining will also be instructed. The Advanced Arrangement Seminar is designed to teach students advanced floral design styles. Students who complete this seminar will be versed in new trends in floral design.

You should have completed the basic arrangement session or have at least one year of experience in working with flowers. The Arrangements Plus! Seminar is a 10 hour session.

WEDDINGS PLUS!

Description: Ten more wonderful hours to continue to build your wedding design and planning skills.  In this Weddings Plus! seminar you will create Kissing Balls, decorate an Arch, learn about Altar Arrangements and Pew Clips.

All supplies are furnished by the school and students may take their kissing balls, altar arrangements and pew clips home at the end of each class. A certificate will be awarded to each student upon completion of this session. The Weddings Plus! session is a ten hour course.

The tuition for the Weddings Plus! session is $324

EVENT PLANNING

Description: The 10 hour Event Planning course offers students an opportunity to learn about the event industry.  Students will be taught about the various segments of the business, given a step-by-step on how to plan an event from start-to-finish and gain valuable resources that will help you get started in this vast industry.  Of course we would never recommend you start your own business without have some experience.

In addition, we will talk about how to incorporate your talent as a floral designer in your event to make the event spectacular for your customer!

Our instructor for this course has worked in many segments of the event industry including catering, event planning, venue management, event design and most recently, floral design.  She has a passion for the event industry and looks forward to sharing valuable information and resources with her students!

THE SHOP READY EMPLOYEE

Description: In this 10 hour course you will be introduced to the primary tasks necessary to be an entry level employee in a full service flower shop.  We will emphasize customer service, designing for speed and accuracy, processing flowers and shop cleanliness.  We would never recommend you open your own business without getting some experience first.  This course will help you understand the basic tasks of working in a flower shop.

Upon completion you will have a good understanding of what it takes to be a great employee in flower shop.

This is a hands-on course.  You will be taught how to make arrangements and then will have the opportunity to make them on your own.

Topics to be covered include: Greening vases and containers, making bows, taking orders over the telephone and in person, cleaning, processing flowers, creating arrangements and completing paperwork.

Prerequisite:  You must have completed or currently be enrolled in 101, 102 and 103 to enroll in this class. Exemptions are offered to students who have current or previous shop experience.
